Furniture
Our selection of Brazilian Colonial furniture replicates the original furniture of old coffee and sugar cane farms located in the state of Minas Gerais, well known for its colonial mansions. Our furniture is crafted from beautifully grained Brazilian hardwood, using old and proven joinery techniques. Each piece, using carefully selected timbers, is hand-cut and hand made and no mass manufacturing machinery is employed in production.
Finishes
In the late 18th. century, the lords of manors had known European painters come to Brazil to decorate their fine pieces of furniture. Today, based on their original artwork, artisans in Minas Gerais continue to use a process which entails the use of centuries old, traditional, painting techniques. Each piece of furniture is either stained or painted in a polychrome finish. The paint layers are hand-worked to give the furniture a remarkably true aged appearance.
The hardware is designed considering the style of the furniture and also to handle the weight and density of the wood.
Artifacts
Each one of a kind piece which include sculptures, figurines and framed works of art is designed by Antonio Carlos Bech, known as "Toty". Fruit of his overflowing imagination and crafted by a team of sixty artisans working under him, combine to create works of astounding diversity using reclaimed wood and iron selected from the old Brazilian ranches known as "fazendas". Each piece delivers a message and unveils an identity which at the same time is modern and baroque, lyric and sensual. His works attract many admirers including architects, decorators and designers from Brazil and further afield and are very evocative of Brazils cultural heritage.
